In an abridged form Stuart's report has become recognized as a document of the first importance.Sir John Barry in 1964 wrote of it as "an excellent description of the island and the penal settlement"which gave a startling account of a section of the convict's and of "corruption,incompetence,vacillation and retaliatory harshness on the part of the authorities".
